Help me up...

"A good exercise of the heart is bending down and helping someone get up."

“Help me up,” was all I could say when I fell while running a few months ago. My husband and I were on our regular running route when I tripped over a tiny little lip in the side walk. It shocked me because I am use to skipping over roots of trees, avoiding pot holes in the street, and jumping on to curbs. Even more, I’ve run this stretch of sidewalk countless times…but this time I tripped, landed on both knees and an elbow. I was struck by how hard and cold the pavement was and all I wanted was to get up off the ground.

It’s amazing how sometimes it’s the little things in life that “trip” us up. We might be going about our regular routine and WHAM we “fall.” Asking for “help up” isn’t always easy…but at times necessary. Obviously, I draw parallels of fitness activities to other parts of life. Mind, body, spirit and community/ friendship are entwined. Many of us fall out of a fitness routine because of an injury or because of a number of other possible “life” issues. Sometimes you just need to ask others to “help you up!”
