A few weeks ago when Tacoma, WA was experiencing 60 degree days in February, I thought I better get up to the mountain because spring skiing has come early this year. So off I went. It was amazing! Perfect blue sky conditions, the snow was good, and best of all there were no lines. My goal was to get 12 runs in before returning to the city. By the time I hit the last two my legs were getting a little shaky, but I was still having fun. It was then that I decided that all those sessions of leg workouts in the winter were worth the time and the effort in order to enjoy such a spectacular day of skiing on the mountain.
Strength training is great for enhancing some of the activities that we enjoy, like skiing, hiking, biking etc. It also has other tremendous benefits: 1. helps to prevent osteoporosis 2. increases metabolism 3. tones muscles 4. produces endorphins 5.contributes to your overall strength—mind, body and spirit. I believe strength training is for… life. As my husband’s grandma (the strongest woman I’ve ever known) use to say, ”Use it, or lose it.”
